Final Exam

HI!

New week … new task … this week assignment is final exam …

We had to find articles on digital scholarship … I find a lot of different articles.

I post my findings in Dropbox folder by the name Kaja Praprotnik 21110046, we had to organize our findings alphabetic in Bibliography. 

I search mostly on Jstor and some findings I found on Mendeley and then some video on Vimeo, Youtube and Slideshare.I also search on GoogleScholar but I didn't found any results relevant for this topic.  I have saved all my findings in the Zotoro Library; in the screenshot below you can see some of my findings saved in Zotoro Library.

The final Exam was a bit difficult, because the time is pressuring and I could not  see all the video that I posted, and also the article that I choose could not read so I don't know exactly what  I have publish.

What did I learn?

I lot of new things ... that I know how to use online collaboration tools, that mind come in handy one day. 

My reflection on the Internet Practice Part 2

This two month I learned a lot of new things, mostly of them will came in handy for further learning.
The most practical tools for learning new Internet Tools were the Assignments, that we had to do every week new.

All I can say, that I'm very grateful for this experience, it was really useful. And I am gonna miss the Thursday lesson on Internet Practice.

6th Assignment - Social and Media Scholarship

New week, new assignment …

This week assignment was Social and Media scholarship; we were given a task to choose two scholars from the list below:

-         First Monday,

-         International Journal of Internet Science,

-         Policy & Internet,

-         Journal of European Television History and Culture,

-         Language@Internet,

-         Scholarly and Research Communication.

And then find out if they have a Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn  and Academia edu account.

I chose two scholars from the last one Scholarly and Research Communication. 

Gabrielle Gardiner, University of Technology Sydney

She is a Manager e Research at University of Technology in Sydney, Australia. Gabrielle Gardiner uses all four social accounts.

Her Facebook profile isn’t private, but I didn’t found a lot about her, that is relevant for our research. She mostly publish which lecture is she going to attend (for example …). In the screenshot you can see her FB profile. 

 

Gabrielle’s Twitter profile looks like; she is only uses for fun. Her tweets are mostly personal (what is she doing, where is she …). Screenshot on the left is her Twitter account. 

At Gabrielle LinkedIn account I didn’t found anything, because I think that you can only access for more information if you have a payable account. In the screenshot below you can see what I was able to see.  

And at her Academia edu account, you can access for some paper (7) that she had publish.

Fides Lawton, University of Technology Sydney 

Fides Lawton is a Director (Library Resources Unit) at University of Technology in Sydney, Australia. She uses three social network, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. 

Her Facebook profil is private, so I couldn’t found anything, as you can see at the screenshot on the right.  

 

Fides Twitter account is only used for fun and for communicate with her collages (Her Tweet: Fides Datu Lawton ‏@fidesdatulawton am at tweetup with colleagues - great fun at work!!)

And with her LinkedIn account I had the same problems like with Gabrielle Gardiner’s account before. Believe that only access is available if you have a payable account. 

It was an interesting assignment, I had no particularly problem ...

Assignment 5: online collaboration tools

Hi!

When we were given this week Assignment, I was a bit lost, because I didn't understand what exactly the Assignment is. So I decided to work with my group members to see, if one of them understand what we have to do.

This week Assignment was get to know online collaboration tools and at the same time, we get to known a few scholars. 

I had to pick two scholars  from our list (Group 6: Scholars 51 - 60) and Archive all a-v resources that I was able to found with different Search Engines .

I used only Zotoro Library (Like I said in last week assignment, I prefer Zotoro because is always by your hand in your right lower corner of the computer-screen) for Archive and when I search on Mendeley I used Mendeley Library also.

I decided to Look  for: Douglas Kellner - University of California, Los Angeles, USA and John J. Pauly - St. Louis University, USA.

For both of my Scholars I used the same Search engines, and I found a lot of different information on them. I saved all my findings in Zotoro personal Library and than made a report about my scholars were I used only a few of my findings.

I found a lot more on Douglas Kellner, so his part is a little more interesting and more in detail made - with more video clips and with more URL connections, but I also found few information on John J. Pauly, so his part is also supported with video clips and URL connections.



It was an interesting assignment to do, and I hope that I made it correctly.

4th Assignment - Zotero

Hi!

This week assignment was Get to know Zotero and see if you like it and use it.

 I have worked together with my group members Danaja and Tjaša throw Facebook-Communication, so that we had help each other.
At the beginning we were a bit lost, but than when we have downloaded Zotero, the Zotero helped us with the presentation video about Zotero.

My impression about Zotero is actually pretty good, because I like that the Zotero Library is always by your hand in the lower right corner. And when I search throw Internet and I see something that mind come in handy one day I just save it to Zotero Library.

So if I have to compare Zotero with Medneley, I would choose Zotero, even dough that Mendeley is I guess a bit easier that Zotero.

Assignment 3: Using reference management software, Mendeley

Hi!

This week assignment was get to know Mendeley. For this database search I never heard before, and so I had no idea what to expect. I saw a few different tutorials, for example what Mendeley is, and how to use it.

My classmate Danaja created a Mendeley public group, named Group 6, which is really helpful, because that how our group members can share information on our database search.

Our group (group 6) had to find different articles on theme  POLITICS-NEW MEDIA, we had divided our search responsibility, I search throw pages from 8 to 11, and the other pages are divided to my group members (Tesa 1-3; Mateja 4-7, Tjaša 12-15, Danaja 16-19).

I was really impressed with Mendeley when I saw, that I can save an article about our topic to my Mendeley Desktop, and I don't need to copy every articles URL to my Word Dokument, if I wanted to see again. 

So to end my blog post, I would use Mendeley again, because I think is a very helpful tool for the research. And I think it would come in handy for my study at Faculty of Social Science.

2nd Assignment - Digital libraries and repositories of scholarship

The new task for Internet Practice was the search of Digital Libraries, for which you don't need to be a member of UL Library.

At first I had some trouble finding the right search options at both digital libraries, but than I did some research and everything get better.

1st assignment: Literature database

Me again ...

We have (Group6) divided the search for Literature database among us 5, two different groups me and Danaja Mertelj and the other Group was Tjaša, Mateja and Tesa.  I had to searched throw Communication and Mass Media complete, JSTOR and Political Science complete, I search for Author: Martine van Selm and keyword: Digitalization, and the other my task was search for keyword: Social Construction of technology, topic: Virtual ethnography and topic: Active audience in a search base Communication and Mass Media complete and Political Science complete. For the searched of the literature I have taken proximal 45 min and I found quite a bit of articles that are connected with the author or the keyword. I choose only those one that are related to our course the Internet Practice. First the searching was a bit difficult but then was quite easy, when I realized what exactly I had to look, to found the right article. This was an interesting task to do, and I believe it would come in handy for our further education on the Faculty.

Hi!

Little things about my Life before the Faculty of Social Sciences. When I was 15-years old, I move to Austria, because of the school, and therefore I had to start using internet for communication with my family back home. Because of all of this I had to learn a lot of new thing about the internet and its ability. So, now this course Internet Practice is going to give me a lot of new options to learn new things about the internet and its ability ...To conclude with my firs blog post, I don’t have specific interest from this course yet, but I’m looking forward to learn any new things.
